C underwent hernia repair on 1 February 2010 and discharged on the same day. On 23 April 2010 he was admitted with bilateral pulmonary emboli. This was treated and he has discharged on 27 April 2010. The issue arose as to whether he was properly advised as to the clinical features of venous thromboembolism – had he been warned he would have sought medical advice earlier.
